Trimco Group's ProductDNA® Achieves GS1 UK Product Approval
GS1 UK approval confirms ProductDNA®’s GS1 Digital Link capability - as GS1 standards gain momentum in Digital Product Passport frameworks for textile and apparel
LONDON, UK, September 10. Trimco Group, a global provider of brand identity and “Greentech” solutions for the textile and footwear industry, announces that its ProductDNA®* traceability solution has been GS1 UK approved for GS1 Digital Link capability.
The approval follows a review with GS1 UK of the concept and key pillars behind ProductDNA®, confirming ProductDNA®’s conformance with the specified GS1 standards assessed — specifically, its GS1 Digital Link capability.
Traceability as a step every supplier already takes
Launched in 2022, Trimco Group's ProductDNA® was designed to make traceability and transparency a natural part of apparel operations rather than a separate compliance project. It rests on three pillars:
/ Collect upstream data with Trimco Group’s local teams. Trimco Group's Certificate Manager is the first module brands deploy to achieve supply chain mapping and traceability. With Trimco Group's teams on the ground in key manufacturing regions, and with over 8,000 garment vendors already onboarded to Trimco Group's labeling systems, the onboarding process combines both a local human touch and AI-powered optical character recognition for minimal friction.
/ Connect upstream data without extra burden. The data collection done with Trimco Group's Certificate Manager is now seamlessly integrated with Trimco Group's label ordering system. Traditional label sourcing has always included linking PLM & ERP data from a brand. So Trimco Group's systems are already integrated with a brand's EDI files that hold PO, season, style number, size, colour, and GTINs. The garment vendors' standard operating procedure is to order the care labels at the time of bulk production. Now Trimco Group has created a very powerful convergence point where the GTIN from brands' ERP/PLM, supply chain mapping and the fibre content of the product are all connected in Trimco Group's ProductDNA®-enhanced labelling systems.
/ Carry traceability into the garment. Care labels printed through ProductDNA® can include QR codes, keeping upstream-collected data accessible on the finished product.
Why alignment with GS1 standards matters
Trimco Group recognizes that supply chain data cannot be connected to products in a proprietary way unique to any one provider. For traceability to work at industry scale, green tech solutions need to follow a common standard — which is why Trimco Group reviewed ProductDNA® with GS1 UK.
GS1 is the only authorised provider of unique GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers), which uniquely identify a product across physical and digital retail. GS1 standards support global interoperability, retailer readiness and trusted data sharing across the supply chain.
Regulatory momentum behind GS1 and the Digital Product Passport
Trimco Group expected GS1 standards to become a key standard within the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and the Digital Product Passport (DPP) infrastructure. The publication of the first European DPP standards by CEN and CENELEC on 27 May 2026 has borne this out, with GS1 Digital Link recognised as the product identifier pattern within the new framework.
The direction of travel is global. On 27 March 2026, China formally established its first national technical standardisation body dedicated to Digital Product Passports (SAC/SWG41), with the working group's secretariat hosted by GS1 China.
Through its partnership with GS1, Trimco Group looks forward to contributing to this standardisation work for the textile and apparel industry worldwide.
“We're delighted that Trimco Group's ProductDNA® has achieved GS1 UK approval for its GS1 Digital Link capability. As organisations prepare for an increasingly connected and data-driven future, the adoption of open, global standards is critical to enabling interoperability and trusted data sharing across supply chains. It's encouraging to see solution providers such as Trimco investing in the consistent use of GS1 standards to help deliver greater transparency and efficiency for industry.”, mentions Laura Milillo, Engagement Manager at GS1 UK.
A common voice for brands
"We're really excited to be aligning with important GS1 industry standards and to offer our brands a solution that's achieved GS1 UK product approval," said Kayleigh Nichols, Business Development Manager at Trimco Group. "Aligning standards across the industry is so important. It helps brands find a common voice when navigating complex regulatory requirements. Having GS1 UK product approval built into Trimco's ProductDNA® really helps connect those dots."
Trimco Group is committed to meeting the highest standards in everything it does, from tailored brand identity solutions to its range of digital solutions. Achieving GS1 UK product approval for ProductDNA® use of GS1 standards is proof of this commitment and of the company's ongoing drive to deliver the best solutions for its customers.
Note to editors*
While both Trimco Group and GS1 UK each offer separate products under the name "ProductDNA", each organisation's product is distinct and independently developed. References to "ProductDNA" in this announcement refer exclusively to Trimco Group's ProductDNA product and should not be interpreted as referring to any GS1 UK product.
GS1 UK approval confirms that Trimco Group’s ProductDNA® has been assessed against, and conforms with, specified GS1 standards (GS1 Digital Link capability). It relates solely to conformance with those standards and does not constitute approval, certification or verification of compliance with the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), Digital Product Passport requirements, future delegated acts, or any other regulatory framework. As DPP regulations and supporting delegated acts continue to develop, brands should assess their compliance obligations against the specific legislation applicable to their products and sectors.
