Care Label Materials & Formats

The material and format of a care label affect how it feels against the skin, how it sits in the garment, how long it lasts, and its sustainability impact. Trimco Group offers a full range of care label formats and materials, from standardized, production-ready ribbons to customized and preferred material options, so you can match the label to the product, the brand, and your sustainability goals.

Care Label Formats

/ Printed fabric labels: High text capacity, making them suitable for care and content information across multiple languages.

/ Woven labels: A premium feel and durable branding, often used for brand and size information.

/ Heat transfers: Printed directly onto the fabric with no separate label, making them suitable for garments and footwear.

/ Tear-away labels: Designed to be removed by the customer, commonly used for size and care marking. However, care information must remain accessible for proper garment care.

/ Stickers: Used for care and content information on products that can’t carry a care label or have limited packaging space. Peel-and-reveal stickers are often used on sock and underwear packaging, combining care and content details with barcodes and point-of-sale data.

/ Shoe tongue labels: Carry content, sizing information, and digital data carriers to help consumers make informed decisions at the point of sale and throughout the product lifecycle.

/ Hangtags: Provide off-garment brand and product information at the point of sale.

/ RFID sew-in labels: Extend the care and content label with inventory tracking, loss prevention, and product authentication capabilities.

Care Label Materials — We keep a library of standardized core ribbons that are ready for production, available in single- and double-sided formats. Standardized materials speed up sampling and onboarding, keep costs consistent across markets, and maintain the same quality standards worldwide.

Standard and specialty options include:‍

/ Care and content ribbon materials, with a set of readily available options plus specialty materials

/ 100% recycled polyester woven labels

/ Water-based inks for heat transfer labels

/ Screen printing

/ Customizable options for tailored projects, including organic cotton, silicone, taffeta, and nylon

/ Specialized security features

/ Premium and functional constructions, including options for denim and tear-away applications

‍

Sustainable Materials and Less Waste — Sustainability on a care label comes from two places: what it is made of and how much of it there is.

/ Recycled materials, including 100% recycled polyester satin, nylon, and TPU

‍/ Water-based inks on heat transfer labels

‍/ Fewer label layers where compliance allows, reducing textile waste

‍/ Correctly sized content and layout, reducing the amount of material used per label

Formats, Dimensions and Setup — Before production, we set a clear template for your brand so every order is consistent:‍

/ Languages required for your markets

‍/ Dimensions and format

‍/ Fixed versus variable data, so brand-level content stays constant while product-level content changes with each order

‍/ An optimized layout that fits the required content into the smallest sensible space

Production options include double-sided printing, 2 + 1 colors, and QR codes for e-commerce and brand communication. Every order can be previewed online, with an optional layout approval step before production.

We can also import care label data directly from your brand, provided it is supplied in the required format. This eliminates the need to manually enter fiber content during the online ordering process.

How and Where Labels Are Produced — Trimco Group operates a global manufacturing footprint, with production and service close to major sourcing bases in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa. That reach means labels can be produced close to where garments are made, with consistent quality and governance across regions.

For selected programs, in-plant printing produces labels directly inside garment factories using technology and standards controlled by Trimco Group. It is an optional model, used where it adds the most value:

/ Faster: Shorter lead times because labels are produced close to the point of use

‍/ Flexible: Easier response to changing quantities, product data, and factory schedules

‍/ Responsive: Local reprints or adjustments when approved information changes

‍

Smart and RFID Formats — RFID-enabled care labels and RFID sew-in labels add inventory tracking, loss prevention, self-checkout, and product authentication to the same label footprint. Our LifeID smart labels bring these capabilities together in a single label solution.

FAQ

Which care label material should I choose?

It depends on the product and where the label sits. Printed fabric labels hold the most text, which suits multi-language care and content. Woven labels give a premium branded feel. Heat transfer suits next-to-skin garments, usually preferred by activewear. Trimco Group can match the format to your product and market.

‍

Do you offer sustainable care label materials?

Yes. Options include 100% recycled polyester, nylon/polyamide and TPU, textile to textile recycled polyester such as NovaPoly, water-based inks for heat transfer, and content optimization that reduces the material used per label and cuts label layers where compliance allows.

‍

What is a tear-away label?

A tear-away label is designed so the customer can remove it after purchase, commonly used for size and other marking that the wearer may not want to keep.

‍

Can you produce labels close to our factories?

Yes. Trimco Group manufactures across several countries and can produce close to major sourcing bases. For selected programs, in-plant printing produces labels directly inside garment factories.

‍

What is the difference between fixed and variable data on a label?

Fixed data stays the same across a program, such as brand logo and legal identifiers. Variable data changes per product or order, such as size, composition and country of origin. Separating the two keeps setup consistent and ordering fast.
